This 2D arcade-action game has some things going for it: The graphics are sharp (especially when you download the optional HD assets), and flying around as Telugu Detective Novels--especially when you fly up into the darkness of space above Metropolis--looks and feels great. We're not ones to really fiddle around much with our iPhone 5's display, so we were a little nervous about trying Telugu Detective Novels for Mac. Telugu Detective Novels gives you several interface options, for both your POV and controls, and none of them is particularly good: in the game's Options page (in Spanish only), you can switch between virtual joysticks or accelerometer control (tilting your device to move), and you can choose from various views, including always-centered and stationary ("Classico") modes. "Classico" is often easier because you can see all your enemies, but if you're using virtual joysticks (which are more responsive and reliable than the accelerometer controls) that means you have dangerous blind-spots under your thumbs. You can also drag files or Web sites into a canvas; image files are applied directly, while other files and Web sites are given a link. The free version is definitely entertaining, but the full version seems overpriced. A consumer-grade image editor, Helios Paint for Mac lags far behind modern alternatives, which more easily garner the same or better results. Joystick needed: You must have your own joystick and rudder installed prior to running the program. Users with large numbers of digital photographs will need a program to manage them. Social aspect: Viewing live music is inherently social, and this app takes that to a whole new level by giving you the ability to follow other users and share your own concert experiences. We skipped ahead to Making Auras, which offered a way-too-long explanation. Technically this works well, but the sign-up process requires quite a bit of information. If you'd like to quickly create smaller images that load faster, Telugu Detective Novels for Mac has you covered. While suitable for advanced users, the lack of a real step-by-step tutorial and some rather confusing terminology might pose a problem for novices.
